Pradosh day is one of the most auspicious days in Hindu religion. The day is purely dedicated to worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. On the sacred day of Pradosh, devotees worship them with devotion and pure intention. They offer their sincere prayers to Lord Shiva and seek blessings. Pradosh that falls on Thursday is known as Guru Pradosh Vrat. Pradosh falls twice a month during Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha. In the month of May, Guru Pradosh vrat will take place on Trayodashi tithi of Shukla Paksha in Adhik Jyeshtha Maas i.e., May 28, 2026.

Guru Pradosh Vrat 2026: Significance

Pradosh Vrat is one of the most sacred days in Hinduism. The day is devoted to Lord Shiva and devotees offer their sincere prayers to the Lord. Pradosh falls twice a month during Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha and this time it is going to occur during Shukla Paksha and we all know that Purushottam Maas is going, which makes this Pradosh Vrat special and unique. Devotees who fast and pray fervently are thought to be very devoted. Devotees are bestowed with bliss and the fulfillment of their desires by Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. According to Hindu mythology and scriptures, Lord Shiva used Tandava to control the demon Apasmara. Worshiping the idol of Lord Natraj is a way for the people, who are experiencing despair, anxiety, or negative thoughts to offer prayers to Lord Shiva.

Guru Pradosh Vrat 2026: Puja Rituals

1. Devotees wake up early and take a holy bath.
2. Place an idol of Shiva Parivaar and light a diya with pure cow ghee.
3. Offer dry fruits, flowers, garlands, and homemade sweets.
4. During Gaudhooli, Pradosh Puja is performed in the evening.
5. In the evening, recite the Pradosh Vrat Katha and the Panchakshari and Mahamritryunjaya mantra.
7. After the puja with aarti is finished, everyone in the family must receive bhog prasad before breaking the fast.
8. On the day of Pradosh, they are encouraged to eat sattvik cuisine and are not allowed to eat meat, onions, garlic, eggs, or alcohol.
