Dev Uthanki Ekadashi 2022: Dev Uthani Ekadashi is one of the main and important among all the other Ekadashis. Dev Uthani Ekadashi is also known as Probodhini Ekadashi. It holds a special significance as Lord Vishnu wakes up on this auspicious day of Ekadashi which is observed during Shukla Paksha in the month of Kartik, that is why this Ekadashi is known as Devotthan Ekadashi. This month, Devuthani Ekadashi is being celebrated today on Friday, November 4, 2022.

According to the Hindu Scriptures, Lord Vishnu went to Kshirsagar (milky ocean) on Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha in Ashadha month which was observed as Dev Shayani Ekadashi and these four month of period is known as Chaturmaas. Any auspicious activity was prohibited in these four months during 'Chaturmas'. It is believed that Lord Shri Hari wakes up on Dev Uthani Ekadashi then all religious and auspicious activities will begin again that is why people celebrate this day with great enthusiasm and offer prayers to the Lord. On this day the marriage ceremony of Lord Vishnu to Goddess Tulsi is also performed and this ceremony is known as ‘Tulsi Vivaah’ and at many places Tulsi vivah is celebrated on the next day of Prabodhini Ekadashi.

Devuthani Ekadashi is celebrated with great grandeur all over the country by all the devotees of Lord Vishnu and Lord Krishna and temples are decorated with flowers and lights.




Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2022: Importance

As per Skanda Puran, The greatness of Devuthani Ekadashi was first narrated by Lord Brahma to Sage Narada. It holds great significance for Hindus as this day marks as the beginning of all auspicious activities like marriages, engagements, child naming ceremonies, grah pravesh etc. Devotees observe this sacred fast to get rid from their sins which they might have committed in their past and present life. It is believed that people who worship Lord Vishnu on this holy day, can even attain salvation or ‘moksha’ and go to abode of Lord Vishnu which is knows as ‘Vaikunth Dham’.

Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2022: Puja Vidhi
1. People wake up early in the morning and first clean their house.

2. Take a holy bath and get ready.

3. Light a diya and offer garland and flowers, five types of fruits, sweets and prayers to Lord Vishnu.

3. In the evening women clean the floor where they make an idol of Lord Vishnu from red and white colour chalks.

4. Offer Singhada fruits (Water Chestnut), sugarcane (Ganna), reddish (Mooli) and sweet vermicelli (seviyan) and dakshina along with the prasad.

5. Light a diya with desi ghee and cover it with sieve and then women sings bhajan and ring bells and pray to the Lord to wake up and bless them with all their desired wishes and happiness.

6. They remove sieve from diya after waking up the Lord and offer prayers to the Lord Vishnu.

7. After completing all the Puja rituals, people light up their house with lamps, diyas and switch on all the lights.
