Chitragupta Puja 2024: Significance

Chitragupta Puja is performed to honor the God of justice, Lord Chitragupta. He is the one, who keeps the record of Karma done by every single human being and once they leave their bodies then Lord Chitragupta decides punishment and rewards as per their Karma and deeds. Special puja rituals are performed to worship Lord Chitragupta and this is mainly done by Kayastha community people. This puja is performed on Dwitiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha on Kartik Month.

As Lord Chitragupta is very near to Lord Yama who is known as the God of death so Lord Yama also helps Lord Chitragupta and keep an eye on the record of all the human karma on earth. Lord Chitragupta writes the deeds and everything done by a person in their whole life which determines their after life fate whether they should be punished for some misdeeds or they should be rewarded for the good things or karma they have done in their life. Accordingly they get moksha, rebirth, and a miserable life in hell. This day is celebrated to please Chitragupta Ji and pray him for peace, prosperity and happiness.
