Lunar Eclipse: Special arrangements at Sri Krishna Mutt in Udupi; Darshan allowed but no meals during eclipse
The famous Sri Krishna Mutt in Udupi has made special plans for people who want to visit the temple on March 3, 2026, when the moon will be in the sky.
The people in charge of the temple have decided to keep the mutt open for darshan the whole time. This lets devotees pray to Lord Krishna without stopping. During eclipses, some temples close their sanctum, but the management here has decided to keep darshan open so that people who see the event as spiritually important can still pray and take part in rituals.
But the mutt won't serve food during the eclipse. This has been a tradition for a long time. There will be a short break in the delivery of anna prasada and other food services. They will start up again after the eclipse and the rituals that need to be done to clean up. A lot of Hindu groups don't cook or eat during an eclipse because they think it's a time for spiritual discipline, chanting, and meditation.
Temple officials said that regular pujas and sevas will continue as usual, and that special rituals will take place after the eclipse. People who believe that the eclipse is a good time to pray, japa, and ask God for blessings should come to the temple all day.
Authorities have told people to look up when the eclipse will happen and plan their trip around that. Devotees should also help temple staff keep the crowds under control and follow their instructions to make sure darshan goes well.
The Sri Krishna Mutt is one of the most important places to go on pilgrimage in Karnataka. It gets very busy during astronomical events that have spiritual meaning. The next lunar eclipse will be a religious event as well as a celestial one, so a lot of people are likely to be interested in it.
