He was living in a time where people were referring scriptures and books and people used to take the religious identity as badge and people used to perform rituals without changing themselves from inside and he realised that people were talking about religion very beautifully and had a good knowledge about the religion but they were carrying all bad elements such as ego, lust, attachment, greed and anger. Seeing this, he thought to teach people that religion never comes from just talking about it, they have to practice it religiously.
