Choti Holi 2026: Significance

Choti Holi holds a great religious significance in Hindu religion. According to the Hindu mythology Holika, the sister of Hiranyakashipu received a boon that rendered her fire-resistant. But Holika was destroyed by the flames, but her nephew Prahlad, a devoted disciple of Lord Vishnu, was spared by divine intervention. The day is considered as the most auspicious day to burn all the evil energies. This day is also celebrated as Holika Dahan in which bonfires are lit in the evening at different places. People perform puja there then they burn this. According to the gregorain calendar, Holi is usually observed in February or March in the month of Phalguna.


Holika Dahan should be celebrated, when there's no bhadra kaal. People come along with their families and friends to offer prayers. This sacred bonfire symbolizes the burning of all the evil spirits like Holika. People perform their sincere prayers to Lord Vishnu and worship the bonfire by chanting the various powerful mantras.
