After her marriahe she kept Karwa Chauth Vrat with her sister in law for the long life and well being of her husband. Veeravati could not bear the hunger while fasting and due to hunger she fainted. All her brothers knew about this situation and could not see her sister in tis condition and they knew that she would not eat anything until the moon will appear in the sky so they decided to show her fake moon so that she could eat something. One brother climb the banyan tree with a lamp and sieve so that they can show her the reflection of the light and she will think that this is the actual moon. When she woke up from the unconsciousness, they all asked her to break the fast as the moon had appeared in the sky so they brought her to the terrace and showed her the moon. She believed them and broke her fast, so when she sat for having the food, in her first bite she found a hair, in second bite she sneezed and in the third bite she got an invitation from in laws those were the signs that her husband is no more, and seeing his dead body she cried and blamed herself for breaking the fast. Then Goddess Indrani, wife of Indra came to console her the she asked about the demise of her husband on this auspicious day, she begged to bring his life back but she could not do so and told her that she broke her fast without seeing and offering Arghya to the moon and that's the reason of her husband's death. Then Indrani advised her to worship Chauth Mata and observe whole year's Chaturthi fast as this is the only way to bring his life back. After one year, Chauth mata blessed her with happiness and prosperity and returned her husband's life back.
