As per Tamil Calendar, Lord Hanuman was born on Amavasai Tithi when there was a Moolam Nakshatram in the month of Margazhi. This year, it is being celebrated today i.e., on December 23, 2022.

Tamil Hanuman Jayanti 2022: Significance
This day holds a great significance among Hindus as it is believed that Lord Hanuman was born on this particular day. Lord Hanuman is considered as the biggest devotee of Lord Shri Rama. Lord Hanuman was born to mother Anjani and father Kesari after years long strict penance to seek blessings from Lord Shiva. Lord Hanuman is the eleventh incarnation of Lord Shiva and he is still present there on earth as he is an immortal (Chiranjeevi).

Lord Hanuman is known by many names such as - Bajrangbali, Pawan Putra, Kesari Nandan and Maruti. Maruti is his favourite name as Mata Anjani gave this name to him during his childhood. He played an important role in searching Goddess Sita, when she was held captive by the demon king Ravana.

1. People wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath.
2. Devotees visit temples and perform pujas and abhishekam to Lord Hanuman.
3. They Light a diya with desi ghee and offer Raw milk, chandan and other sacred items.
4. In many temples it is seen that priest cover the idol of Lord Hanuman with the thick layer of white butter.
5. Even devotees offer the garland interwined with Medu Vadai to the Lord as this food is considered to be his favourite.
6. Devotees offer differents types of sweets and fruits along with bhog prasadam.
7. They recite shlokas, Mantras, Hanuman Chalisa, Sundar Kand and other bhajans.
8. They show their gratitude towards Lord Hanuman.
