Durga Puja 2023: Durga Puja holds a great religious significance among Hindus. This day is considered to be one of the most auspicious. This day marks the victory of Good over the demon king Mahishasur. This festival is mainly celebrated with great grandeur in West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Odisha and Bihar. Durga Puja is going to be celebrated for five consecutive days starting from Shashti Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashwina and it will culminate with Dussehra and Durga Visarjan which will be celebrated on Dashami Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the same month of Ashwina. Durga Puja festival is going to begin from October 20 and it will end on October 24, 2023.

Durga Puja 2023: Puja Rituals and Significance

Durga Puja is one of the main festivals of Hindus which is celebrated by the devotees with great grandeur and enthusiasm. People bring Goddess Durga idol at home the sixth day of Navratri and worship Goddess Durga for five consecutive days the perform Durga Visarjan on the day of Viajaydashami. Devotees decorate their house, invite relatives, friends and neighbours and celebrate these days with so much happiness and joy.

Bengali people worship Mahishasur Mardini form of Goddess Durga during these days and different rituals and pujas are performed. Different delicacies are prepared by the women and offer bhog prasad to Maa Durga. Along with Goddess Durga, idols of Goddess Laxmi, Saraswati and Lord Ganesha is also installed. During the last day of Durga Visarjan, there is a grand celebration of Sindoor Khela in which married women first offer vermillion to Goddess Durga then they apply vermillion to other married women and give them blessings of good life and good fortune.
