Chaitra Navratri 2026 Day 7: Maa Kaalratri, rituals, mantra and significance
Chaitra Navratri has almost come to an end as we are going to celebrate the seventh day of Navratri, which is devoted to Goddess Kaalratri, the seventh form of Goddess Durga. These days are considered extremely auspicious and sacred to worship Maa Durga. Devotees offer their sincere prayers to the nine forms of Goddess Durga during these nine days. The seventh form of Maa Durga is Goddess Kaalratri. This day falls on Saptami tithi of shuka paksha in the month of chaitra. This year, the seventh Navratri is being observed on March 25, 2026. Let's know more about this form of Goddess.
Kaalratri means "the one who is kaal, which means death, and Ratri, which means the night," she is the ferocious manifestation of Goddess Durga and fight against the darkness. She is renowned for eliminating evil spirits, negative forces, and demons. When someone prays to the Goddess Kaalratri, their wishes come true.
According to the Hindu scriptures, demons named Shumbh Nishumbh were vanquished by Maa Durga in the Kaalratri form. When they attempted to demolish the gods' abode, all of the gods turned to the Goddess for assistance. After hearing them, the Goddess turned in her Kaali roop and killed Chand Mund, Shubh Nishumbh's helper. Raktabeej, another demon, then arrived to get revenge. After a struggle, Goddess Chamunda finally killed Shumbh Nishumbh.
The sevent form of Goddess Durga is Maa Kaalratri. She wears the garland of narmund, has open hair, and a darker complexion. She has four hands and an giant structure. She exudes strength, vitality, and fire. When she breathes in and out, flames emerge from her nostrils. Although she fights demons, she is an extremely dangerous manifestation of Maa Durga.
In order to obtain siddhis, or supernatural power, certain devotees who practice sadhna, yoga, and tantra kriya worship Goddess Kaalratri at night. She is a representation of the crown chakra (Sahasra Chakra). She also led the planet Saturn, therefore those who have issues with Shani in their horoscope are encouraged to pray to Goddess Kaalratri in order to resolve their issues.
