Chaitra Navratri 2026 Day 2: Maa Brahmacharini, puja vidhi, mantra, color and significance
Navratri day 2 is dedicated to worship Goddess Brahmacharini. Devotees observe rigorous fast and offer their sincere prayers to the second form of Goddess Durga. Devotees seek blessings of the Goddess by performing various puja rituals and spiritual activities. Navratri second day is going to be observed on March 20, 2026.
On the second day of Navratri celebrations, Mata Brahmacharini, the Goddess of Penance, is widely honored. She is depicted as wearing a white saree, holds a rosary in one hand and a kamandal in the other hand. Brahmacharini Mata is believed to give knowledge, wisdom and insight upon her followers. Brahmcharini mata engages in penance or tapasya. Maa Brahmcharini is also known as devi Tapasvini and devi Yogni.
Worshiping the goddess Brahmcharini to receive happiness, strength, and power. Goddess Brahmacharini is the most calm, elegant, and peaceful form of the goddess. She is full of courage, wisdom, loyalty, love, and dedication. Maa Brahmcharini, the goddess of the Sacral Chakra (Swadhishthana Chakra), is in charge of Mars (Mangal). According to the astrological significance, people who have mangal dosha in their horoscope are required to observe fast on this day and devote themselves fully to worship Maa Brahmcharini. The goddess is revered as the great giver, who enables her followers to fulfill their desired wishes.
Green is a hue associated with fertility, growth, fresh starts, and new beginnings. On this day, devotees should worship Goddess Durga with great devotion while wearing this color. Their lives will become more peaceful as a result. This colour brings emotional balance and inner peace in your life.
According to Hindu scriptures, Maa Parvati was born as the daughter of Himalaya and before her marriage to Lord Shiva, she performed a great penance. She survived on fruits and flowers for a thousands of years, then on herbs for a century, and ultimately on the broken leaves of the bilva Patra for a millennium.
In the end, she even quit eating bilva leaves and started a strict penance that required her to go thousands of years without eating or drinking. She finally became extremely weak because of intense penance. The gods and goddesses were disturbed by this situation and Saptrishi's gave her the blessing that all of her wishes would be fulfilled and that she would surely wed Lord Chandramouli Shiva. Goddess Parvati was given the name Aparna and Brahmcharini because of her strict penance.
