Chaitra Naavratri 2026 Day 3: Maa Chandraghanta, rituals, mantra, colour and significance
Navatri period is considered as the most auspicious and sacred period for Hindus. Chaitra Navratri is the name given to Navratri that takes place in the month of Chaitra. This event is grandly celebrated by a big number of devotees nationwide. People offer prayers to the Goddess and observe fast. Today, March 21, 2026, is the third day of Navratri, which is devoted to Goddess Chandraghanta.
She possesses three eyes, 10 hands, and a variety of weapons, including Kamandal, Lotus, Japa Mala, Trishul, Gada, sword, bow, and arrow. Her right hand is in the shape of Abhay Mudra, while her fifth left hand is in the Varada Mudra position. The moon, shaped like a bell or Ghanta, is positioned on her forehead.
The planet Sun is ruled by Maa Chandraghanta. Goddess Parvati's chandraghanta form is peaceful, and those who worship her with good intentions are blessed by Maa with joy, wealth, and good health. It is believed that the sound of the moon ringing on her forehead purifies her aura and eliminates negativity. Because she is the Goddess of the Manipura Chakra, which is situated on the navel, Navratri days are the ideal time to begin meditation for those who wish to practice yoga and spirituality.
1. Early in the morning, devotees take a bath.
2. They dress neatly.
3. Offer Goddess Durga flowers or a garland, and light a diya with desi ghee.
3. Offer fruits, shringaar products, and vermillion or kumkum.
4. Recite Durga Chalisa and Saptashati Paath.
5. Chant Maa Durga Aarti after offering bhog prasad in the evening.
6. People can break their fast with sattvik food after presenting the Goddess with bhog prasad.
7. Steer clear of onions, garlic, and other tamsik foods.

Goddess Parvati is referred to as Maa Chandraghanta because of the half moon. She is mounted on a lion, which stands for Dharma.
