Buddha Purnima is the most significant day among Buddhists. This day is celebrated to mark the 2588th birth anniversary of Lord Buddha who is also known as Mahatma Buddha. He is believed to be the ninth form of Lord Vishnu. People commemorate this day by reciting Lord Buddha's teachings and spreading them to as many people as possible. Buddhist texts state that Gautam Buddha was born in Nepal's Lumbini in 563 BCE and passed away in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, in 483 BCE at the age of 80. However, the precise dates of his birth and death are unknown. This day is celebrated with great devotion and happiness across the world, where Buddhists people reside. Buddha Jayanti and Vesak are also observed on this sacred day. He originally preached the dharma at Sarnath, obtained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya on this day, and left his body in Khushinagar. As a result, Lord Buddha is revered at three main locations. Bodh Gaya is the most significant Buddhist pilgrimage place associated with the life of Gautama Buddha. A large number of people visit this place to celebrate his birth anniversary and offer their sincere prayers to him.
On the auspicious day of Buddha Purnima, people pray to Mahatma Buddha and recite his teachings to gain insight and knowledge. The majority of people visit Lord Buddha temples and donate food and clothes to the underprivileged and the people, who are in need. Through meditation, people attempt to pursue a spiritual path for enlightenment. Some people read the sacred texts and practice fasts to seek his blessings.
