Unless you enjoy being the go-to “last-minute savior” for after-hours tasks, zip it. Do not share details about your short commute. The moment your colleague or manager knows you live ten minutes away, you will become the go-to person to run errands outside your CTC. When something urgent comes up at 9 p.m. on a Friday, you will be on their speed dial. So don’t share your proximity to the office, because it is nobody’s business. Let them think you live across the ocean.

No matter how much chemistry you and your colleagues have, do not discuss your salary with them. Sharing this piece of information is like handing out ammo for gossip. When you discuss your salary, someone is always going to feel underpaid, and it’ll just come back to bite you. People at work don’t have to know the person you are outside those office premises. That’s none of their business—until you make it so.
