A senior railway officer of

WR

said, “We are trying to complete the redevelopment work at Dadar station by the end of 2026. The IRSDC will start the tendering process.”

Similarly, a senior officer of CR, who is coordinating the project, said, “Prima facie, the proposed redevelopment plan looks good. It will be cleared shortly.”

SK

Lohia

, managing director of IRSDC, said, “The redevelopment of the station aims to distribute the passengers equally over the platforms and streamline pedestrian movement, by widening and addition of FOBS,

and another concourse level for long-distance passengers.”

“Further, the entry to station along with drop-offs/pick-ups has been panned out with multiple accesses planned along Tilak bridge, LN Road and

Senapati Bapat Marg

to ease the congestion on existing entries,” he said.

Apart from that, segregation of arrival and departure passenger movement is also proposed by dedicating separate arrival and departure blocks. A network of FOBs at level 2 is planned. The network is interconnected with each other to ease the accessibility of platforms.

“Directional segregation of passengers might be achieved through the proposed system. A separate concourse level at 12.75 m level from platforms is also proposed on the north side of the station which will have direct access from the Tilak bridge,” said an official. This level will also be accessed internally from the FOB level. A concourse is planned as such to minimize the travel distance to the platforms catering to long-distance trains.

Further, a trough roof is planned above the suburban platforms and FOBS so that the rainwater and direct sunlight don’t enter the platform and the passengers are not discomforted.

The station shall be 100 per cent accessible for the disabled and shall be developed on green building concept. Dadar shall be a smart station with a modern building management system integrated with CCTV and other systems.

The commercial development shall be done above the concourse level over multiple floors so that facility can be developed for the passengers further.

Any rebuilding/new construction in areas earmarked for future commercial development shall be done only in exceptional circumstances.

Currently, Dadar the railway station has 15 platforms. The western side has seven platforms, including two platforms for the slow suburban route, three for the fast suburban route and the last two platforms are the terminuses of the suburban and long-distance trains.

The remaining eight platforms lie towards the Central line. Out of these, three platforms are on the slow the suburban route, three platforms are on the fast suburban route and the last two platforms are the terminuses of long-distance trains which is also known as Dadar Central Terminus.
