Currently, the best electric car manufacturer is known in the world, Tesla Motors, plans to open its market in India.
Tesla Motors has now officially registered its brand in India in January 2021. 4 upcoming Tesla models are expected to be officially launched in India in 2022-23. The models planning to be launched are Model Y, Model 3, Model X, Model S. The company is planning to set up the manufacturing plant in Bengaluru while the other locations are not yet specified.
Tesla is likely to enter the market with its first model offering ‘Model S’ which will be ranging around ‘Rs 60 lakhs’. This is the highest-selling car of the company offering three variants. The number of variants to be launched in India has not been disclosed yet. Many of the features have been packed in the upcoming Tesla models, however, the self-driving tech is unlikely to be packed in these variants in India.
Encouraging electric cars in India, the Union Minister of Road Transport Nitin Gadkari said that the government will help Tesla in full capacity possible. Tesla has asked for concessions on tax and customs duties to which the government responded that it is under consideration.
Given the prices of the cars and the current scenario of electric vehicles in India, how the company will perform is yet to be seen.
