Politics

Political football theatricals!

The glory of the football game, its global reach, the popularity of World Cup dwarf cricket, played only by few nations. We are nowhere in the top layers globally in football; as much low/dismal as our global rankings on many parameters. So our politics of late is training to fill in the huge gap – political football is gaining momentum in the last few years.

It’s a dreamy political game; so the rules are flexible. Highly popular side can indulge in fantasies. A verbal spree of rhetoric is as much interesting as the game of politics itself. Why should there be a ceiling of 11 players for the famous side? Why should the rule have a minimum of 7 players on the opposite side to have a match be rigidly followed? What if players from the opposite side cross over to the famous side during a match? Should the referee and asst. referees be independent & neutral? Can’t they be hand-picked by the famous side? Why should there be the same rules for both sides on fouls, off-side and such other overtures? Why have only one goalkeeper for the side so famous and intoxicating? How come red-card springs from the referee so fast, when it concerns the opposite side; and obvious no-card for the pet popular side? What is wrong if a player facing red-card is ‘rested’ comfortably in a tightly grilled ‘cage’ rather than players’ gallery? Political pundits can answer!

And the better part is the football is changed so often – it could be of any hue & texture – to face the kicks & free-kicks? The agonizing cries of the footballs, so many are at best ignored; if not again brought back to the ring for further good-kicks?

Is there any surprise on how come most of the spectators show placards of ‘pet popular’ side banner? Failed to see the entry gates, wherein they are prioritized over ‘others’?

The best part of the political football:- Mobile goalpost (on wheels) shall be moved quickly to where the ball has reached any convenient corner! No wonder goals and goalposts shine next only to the placards blinding what? – so obvious it is? 🙂
