England sparkles at FIFA Qualifiers
England played recently against San Marino and damaged them with a score of 5-0. The Tottenham striker and Three Lions captain had been left on the bench as England began their World Cup qualifying drive against San Marino at Wembley Stadium.
The assists came hopping from England from the very inception of the match. the ball was in San Marino’s half the whole time. In the beginning, Lingard gave high hopes to the fans with a penetrating assist which was blocked by Benedettini. In the 14th minute, the match received its opening goal from James which was a priceless assist by Chilwell and James rejoiced the victory with a batting action. San Marino saw the second goal coming when James booted the ball in the air and it landed right on Calvert-Lewin. Lewin made the score 2-0 with a glorious header and made the fans shout, ” It’s two-nil!” In the 23rd minute, Chilwell made an outstanding attempt which was saved by Benedettini. Sterling moved forward, bemusing all and scoring the third goal for England in that match. Sterling didn’t seem to look amused with the goal he scored, he rather had the ‘I-knew-I-would-score’ look. The half-time got over with a score of 3-0.
The second half commenced with many substitutes coming out. Foden replaced Sterling, so did Trippier replaced James. All the players who scored in the first half of the match were replaced except Calvert-Lewin. Lewin proved that he remained on the field for good by scoring in the 53rd minute, making the score a 4-0. San Marino was stressed enough when Ollie came netting the fifth goal against them in the 83rd minute. Ollie took off the bench to score his debut score. San Marino lost hopes to score a single goal in the last seven minutes.
The match was something you don’t see every day. Mason Mount, who had the assisting foot in the third goal scored by Sterling was interviewed after the match to which he said, “It feels like yesterday that I made my debut at Wembley and it has gone so quick.” What all we missed was the presence of Harry Kane, who watched the game from the bench. As soon as the line ups were out, the fans got angry, and tweets and comments were out-
“How Harry Kane must have been desperate to get out there.”
“How different this match might have been if England’s captain and greatest goal threat had led the line against such meek opposition as San Marino.”
The fans surely didn’t like the line-ups but the results pleased them, it even pleased Gareth Southgate (England’s manager) who said, “You don’t get many games where at Wembley you can go out, know you’re going to have a lot of balls and you’ve got to make sure that you use it well.” This shows how much Gareth was impressed by the performance. He later even mentioned that Marcus was very keen to join the group as he wasn’t much with them in the autumn. England’s having its next match with Albania. Let’s hope to see some excellent performance there at the Arena Kombetare.
