Jharkhand CEO: State ready for SIR, process likely from April
A day after the Election Commission (EC) asked 22 states and Union Territories (UTs) including Jharkhand to complete the preparatory works and be ready for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list likely from April, state chief electoral officer (CEO) K Ravi Kumar on Friday said that they are ready to roll out the exercise.
“The enumeration phase in the state is supposed to start sometime in April, the exact date of which is yet to be declared, and the voters will have to fill in the enumeration forms. The enumeration process will take around 30 to 40 days to be completed,” Kumar told TOI. Once the enumeration process is completed, the draft electoral roll will be published. Along with that the list of absent, shifted, dead and duplicate (ASDD) voters will also be released. This will be followed by the claims and objections phase, after which the final electoral roll will be published.
“Out of the total 2.65 crore voters in Jharkhand, mapping of 1.94 crore voters has been completed. This means that 73% of the mapping has been done in the state,” he said. Self-mapping was done for people who are 40 years old or above, and progeny mapping was conducted for people who are less than 40 years old, he added. During the enumeration phase, each voter will have to fill in two forms. While one will remain with them, the other form will have to be submitted to the BLOs.
