ALLAHABAD: Though Rail Budget presented by Pawan Bansal did not gift many trains to the city, it may ease some traffic problems as two new railway over bridges will replace two railway crossings near Prayag railway station.
The existing railway crossings near the Prayag station, having numbers 74A and 78A, will be replaced by new ROBs, which will reduce traffic congestion in the area.
As announced in the Railway Budget, there would be gradual elimination of the existing 10,797 level crossings across the country
While talking of the measures for improving safety and security, railway minister Pawan Bansal said that Corporate Safety Plan for 10 years (2014-2024) has been chalked out. There would be elimination of 10,797 level crossings during the 12th Five Year Plan. Further, there would be no addition of new level crossings in the railways henceforth.
Other safety measures include introduction of Train Protection Warning System on Automatic Signalling Systems, rigorous trials of the indigenously developed Train Collision Avoidance System, using 60 kg rails, 260 meter long welded rail panels and improved flash butt welding technology.
There would also be introduction of 160/200 kmph Self Propelled Accident Relief Trains, induction of crash worthy LHB coaches with anti-climb feature, rehabilitation of identified 17 distressed bridges over next one year.
Further, there will be provision of fire and smoke detection systems, provision of portable fire extinguishers in Guard-cum-Brake Vans, AC coaches and pantry cars in all trains. There would be use of fire retardant furnishing materials in coaches.
