CHANDIGARH: Railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal has announced a project that will allow passengers to book railway tickets from their mobile phones. Passengers will also get SMS alerts which will provide updates on reservation status. To ease congestion on the IRCTC website, Bansal promised that by the end of this calendar year, the railways will put in place a next generation e-ticketing system.
The new railway minister on Sunday said his priority will be to improve the financial health of the national transporter and make it a preferred mode of journey.
"I really hope that the promises that our new railways minister has made are actually fulfilled because the present website is in a really bad condition. It took me 3 hours to get my ticket booked online last time," said Divya Sud Qureshi, an entrepreneur from Sector 11.
