AGARTALA: Criticizing the Centre for walking back on its words and giving Tripura "a raw deal", transport minister Manik De on Tuesday said the budget contradicted Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh's argument for equal opportunity in the northeastern states.
Talking to the media soon after Bansal's
budget speech in Parliament, De said the ministry overlooked a large part of the North East and ignored the state's demand for Agartala-Sabroom railway line and Agartala-Gangasagar (Bangladesh) link.
"Bansal did not mention about Agartala-Sabroom line of Tripura and most ambitious railway link from Agartala to Gangasagar (Bangladesh), which is considered as good gesture of India," De stated.
"However, the budget speech made a point to initiate a survey between Panisagar and Simanapur in Kanchanpur (along northeastern border of Mizoram) during next fiscal," he said. tnn
