CHANDIGARH: Railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal not just gave better connectivity to Chandigarh but assured a new railway track, modern signal equipment factory and skill development facilities for the youth to help them in their search for jobs.
In his speech on Tuesday, Bansal listed 25 places across the country for the skill development programme by the ministry of railways.
A dedicated institute would come up for the purpose. Also, the signal equipment factory in Chandigarh would provide employment opportunities. At present, the city doesn't have any factory that prepares railway equipment.
When contacted, divisional railway manager, Ambala, P K Sangi, said: "Land for the factory is yet to be allotted. Skill development programme is a new concept and youth will be educated in railways. This will help them in their employment. An institute will be set up which will follow the pattern of vocational courses."
Besides this, a railway track from Chandigarh to Yamunanagar via Jagadhari was a long-pending demand. Few months ago, railways had sent the matter to the state government to check availability of land and to obtain approval for sharing expenses on the project. Chandigarh-Dappar-Ambala double rail link, which was also announced by the railway minister, is already being worked upon. The minister has also announced surveys of Rajpura-Bypass and Anandpur Sahib-Chamkaur Sahib-Ludhiana rail link.
