Rituparna Sengupta, Actress on the transition from Bengali films to Bollywood.
Rituparna Sengupta, Actress on the transition from Bengali films to Bollywood. You have made a name for yourself in Bengali films. So why the shift towards Bollywood? I want to experiment and spread my wings. These days, there's a lot of experimentation taking place in Bollywood and strong roles are being written specially for women. It's an exciting time for us actors to take on that kind of challenge and explore new vistas.
What are your forthcoming projects? I've signed quite a few interesting films, including Unns which will be the first one to be released. It is a very interesting role for me since my character transforms from a carefree young girl to a married woman torn between her husband and her former lover. Will you be giving up Kolkata for Mumbai? Of course not. I love Kolkata as a city. The Bengali film industry has made me what I am today and my aim is to do great films from both the industries.
What sort of roles interest you? I am open to challenging roles that will help me push the envelope as an actor. There are several interesting stories being filmed these days. I would love to sink my teeth into a role which would help me stand out as an actor. Your debut vehicle in Bollywood, Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh was very unconventional. But is that not the best way to get noticed? It was a wonderful concept and I was intrigued by it.
