Well, you don't need to grow old sporting your immature graffiti anymore. Puneites are finding different ways to change their tattoos according to their changing tastes.
Getting old tattoos either totally removed or covered up is a trend that has inked its way into Hollywood in a big way. For starters, Academy Award-winning actress Angelina Jolie, probably, sports the most number of tattoos. There are reports that she had a few laser removals and several cover-ups along the way. The dragon on her stomach is said to be a cover-up of a tattoo she got done when she was drunk! This trend is not limited to Hollywood alone. John Fernandez from the city, who has nine tattoos, got a cover-up done for one of his tattoos recently. "I had a tribal design on my arm which was about 12 cms. I wanted a bigger one, so I got a cover-up. Now, I have a 22-cm tribal design with more intricacies," he affirms. Tattoo artist Sabby feels that there are a host of reasons for this trend. "Many people get tattoos done at the wrong places and end up with bad designs. They get these removed as they don't want to be stuck with a bad job for life. Generally, people who have tattoos done in melas as children or for religious reasons want to remove these when they grow older." "The number of students coming in to get their tattoos removed is very less. But, a lot of women who have got tattoos on their foreheads or some religious tattoos want to get them removed now, as their husbands don't consider them fashionable," says Dr Prakash Kataria, who specialises in laser cure.
Sometimes, love-struck people get their love interest's name tattooed. And later, they realise their mistake and go for a cover-up. "I don't do tattoos of names and advise people against it. But, I have people coming to me who have their ex-girlfriend's or ex-boyfriend's name tattooed and can't wait to get rid of it. The obvious solution is a cover-up." So, if you have ever regretted inking the wrong thing onto your body, it's time to head for a cover-up! punetimes@timesgroup.com
