Hollywood actress Eva Mendes clutches on to it. Pop diva Mariah Carey can’t do without it. Bollywood beauties Aishwarya Bachchan, Shilpa Shetty and Preity Zinta too love to sport this hottest accessory. We are talking about the clutch purse, which has become a hot fashion statement today.
Indeed, clutch purse is the perfect accessory that goes very well with a classy outfit if one is heading for a formal do.Says fashion designer Nivedita Saboo, “Clutch purses look very stylish and are very user-friendly.
They can carry all the essentials a woman needs, and still look elegant. They add a glamour quotient to the outfit. In short, it’s not just any other accessory, but a fashion statement.”

Clutch purses are available in various shapes and sizes. Some are even embellished with different kinds of embroidery work. One can also choose from amongst silk and crystal-embellished finishes too.
Rectangular clutch purses are the most popular. And experimental shapes are also in fashion,” informs Nivedita.
Urmeela Patil, another fashion designer, affirms that clutch purses are very much in vogue both internationally as well as locally. Says she, “Clutch purse looks very classy, hence it the hottest party accessory in recent times.

From Hollywood and Bollywood beauties to the local ladies, everybody is carrying the classic tiny clutch purse. It is mostly suitable for formal dos. And high-end designers are even showcasing collections of the clutch purses.”
Although black is a classic colour, Urmeela says that clutch purses in metallic colours like gold, silver and bronze are in demand. Even leather clutch purses are very much in.
“Clutch bags go very well with evening gowns, short dresses and skirts,” says she. The trend of clutch purses seems to be picking up in the city as well. But, like many other fashion trends, they are better off as style statements or status symbols rather than utility purses.
Nithya Jagannath, a city-based model, says, “Most of my friends have got them. In fact, I have got a couple of them. When carried with a cocktail dress or evening dress, they give one a royal look.” But the clutch purse has its own limitations.
Explains Nithya, “One can’t wear a tank top and casual short skirt and carry a clutch purse. They are a little more formal than the normal purses and bags. On the flip side, as one can’t stuff too many things in clutch purses, they are not very practical.” Does not matter, does it? True, since what is haute is so much better than what is not!
