Hello, some help for you
You don’t need to be hassled by the telemarketers any longer. A PT report.
You are driving through heavy traffic. Suddenly, your phone starts ringing. Somehow, you manage to pull the car out of the traffic, only to hear the voice on the other side offering some ‘special service’. Does that irritate you? If so, an imminent change is going to make things better for you.

The Centre has recently informed the Supreme Court that the Informatics Centre is setting up a ‘National Do Not Call Registry’ by September 5 to curb the menace of the telemarketers.
The Centre’s announcement has come as a sigh of relief for many. Says Rohit Gera, Executive Director of a real estate company in the city, “Calling people at odd hours for selling their services is a complete invasion of privacy. If I want something, I’ll find a way without anyone telling me.”
Under this new development, the subscribers who wish to bar such calls will have to register themselves with the toll-free numbers that’ll be set up soon. It’s a blessing in disguise, especially for the doctors. “All of us without exception are disturbed by these unsolicited calls at odd hours. It’s a major distraction for me when I’m treating a patient or entering an operation theatre. And it is nothing short of harassment,” affirms Dr Sandeep Karmarkar, ENT surgeon, who gets at least three such calls everyday offering holiday packages, credit cards, and vehicle or home loans. “These calls have become so regular that now I know which day which bank will call,” he laughs.

The government plans to impose a fine of Rs 50 crore on those who sell their services by violating the new standards. “They should start it sooner than the proposed date. It’s very annoying to attend a telemarketing call, especially when we are busy most of the time. They are forcing us to listen to them, and I don’t want to be disturbed by these calls at any point of time,” says actress Archana Puran Singh.
So, the next time you get a call telling you that you are their lucky customer to get the best home loan or vehicle loan, don’t lose your temper. Just remember that help is on its way.
