The trend of remix has picked up fast and filmmakers are trying hands at it even before the film gets released. THE trend to remix old Hindi songs is pass. The new wave that has caught Bollywood music industry is remixing songs of newly released films. The more catchy and potentially popular songs get remixed, more often than not, before the release of the movie. Some examples of this new remix fever are, Kajra Re from Bunty aur Babli, Ashique Banaya and Aap ki Kashish from Ashique Banaya Apne, Zinda Hoon Main and Chubhte Kaante from Zinda, Woh Lamhe from Zeher, Adat from Kalyug and the list goes on.
What seems to be the reason for this sudden change in the remix region of Bollywood? Is it just another trend or is it an instrument to increase the sales at the box office? Director of the movie Jawani Diwani, Manesh Sharma who has got remixes done of the popular songs from his movie says, "It is a good idea to remix the popular songs from a movie, as they get popularity in clubs... ... This also helps the sales at the box office from the curious club going youngsters." He insists there should be a criteria to remix a song.
"The song should be worth remixing and should not be done forcefully. It is also important that the song sounds good after remixing, otherwise there is no point in doing it," says he. Music Director Ehsaan who seems to be of a similar view says, "Remixing a song is ok as long as the result sounds good. I have heard some remixes that completely ruin the original songs. An example of this is, the remix of Kajra Re. Some songs remixed by DJ Suketu sound really good." Ehsaan also adds, "The remix trend is just a commercially viable thing for the music companies to make more money." Manager of a popular city multiplex affirms that remixing a popular song of a movie helps in luring the public to the theatre... ... He says, "These days most of the time, the soundtrack of a film determines its popularity. If a movie is not doing well, but the songs are popular and they get remixed, they reach out to a larger audience and the sale of the tickets increases." DJ Suketu's job seems to have increased considerably as a result of this trend. His take on this is, "If it is the call of the time and people are liking it, why not go for it?" While explaining the reason for the popularity of these remixes, he says, "The club culture is on the rise and the demand for remixes of new and popular Bollywood songs has risen considerably. The movie producers and directors are of a general opinion that eventually the song will get remixed if it is popular, so it's better to get it done beforehand from someone who can be entrusted of doing a good job." It's hard to tell whether this trend will last or fade away like other. But, from what we see now, people seem to be enjoying the foot tapping popular remixes and waiting impatiently for the arrival of new numbers.
