MP’s. But all is not well within with rising concerns over the high-handedness in which the process of ticket distribution is being done. As per reports, former union minister and two-time Lok Sabha MP, Jitin Prasad, is upset with party high command over not being consulted.


Prasad, considered close to Congress president Rahul Gandhi, is reportedly angry over former BSP MP Kaiser Jahan and former Congress MP Zafar Ali Naqvi being nominated as Congress candidates from Sitapur and Kheri respectively. Prasad, who contests from Dhaurahra seat (carved out from Sitapur and Lakhimpur-Kheri districts), is one of the few candidates who is expected to win or give a tough fight to BJP and SP-BSP combine in the state, now faces an uphill task due to the party’s choice of candidates in neighbouring constituencies.

With the 2019 election likely to be fought in a highly polarised environment in UP, the general mood among Hindus in the region is turning against Congress for giving tickets to Muslim candidates. In a scenario where Congress was expected to win at least one seat (Dhaurahra) in the region, now it appears they may have thrown away their advantage on all three – Dhaurahra, Sitapur and Kheri.
