The year 2008 saw the youth of the country deciding to get serious about standing up and making their voices heard. Often accused of standing back and not taking an active role in the political process, they came out in large numbers in support of the issues they believed in. Delhi in particular saw a very high level of student activism this year, across a range of issues.
While students of JNU courted arrest by forming a human chain at India Gate, to protest against the stopping of the students union elections by the Lyngdoh committee, all three universities Jamia, JNU and DU came together to promote unity after the Delhi blasts on 13/9.
While 26/11 saw an overwhelming response by the aam junta, students once again came to the fore, organising candlelight marches to condemn the attacks and also give out a message of peace. Way to go guys, now lets convert that activism into concrete action!
