Indian student dies in US after jet ski collision

A student from Telangana, who was just two months shy of finishing his Masters course in US, died in a jet ski collision in Florida on March 9. Venkataramana Pittala (27) was from Kazipet, and was pursuing Masters in health informatics at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). He had joined the university in Aug 2022 and was to graduate in May this year.

The accident happened at Fury Playground near Wisteria Island where Pittala had gone with friends on a holiday, according to local media reports. Pittala's jet ski had collided with another being driven by a 14-year-old boy, who escaped without injuries.

Efforts are being made to bring his body back to India. His friends have also set up a GoFundMe page to mobilise funds. "During this difficult time, we seek your support to raise funds to send his body to his family for his final rites and other expenses. Every contribution, no matter the amount, will make a significant impact during this challenging period," said organiser B Sajan.
