Andhra boy, studying in Germany, drowns in a boat accident

ONGOLE: In a tragic incident, a post-graduate student from Prakasam district on Sunday drowned after a boat accident in Duiburg in Germany.
The incident happened on the night of Sunday at around 11pm (IST) and their family received the shocking information at 4am on Monday. The deceased, identified as Katta Mallikarjuna (23), is a native of Katavaripallem village in Kondapi mandal.According to the boy’s parents, Mallikarjuna and his friends went for a boat ride in the evening when it accidentally flipped over.
Mallikarjuna drowned while trying to save one of his friends. Mallikarjuna was pursuing MTech degree at Duisburg University. His father K Venkateswarlu, is a farmer and an employee at a ration shop in Katavaripallem village. Mallikarjuna completed his intermediate in NRI College, Guntur and later completed his B Tech at Lakkireddy Bali Reddy Engineering College in Krishna district. His parents described him as a bright student.
Meanwhile, they urged the Ministry of External Affairs to help get Mallikarjuna’s body back to India to perform the final rites. The General Administration Department (GAD) of Telangana issued a grievance notice to the Indian consulate in Frankfurt who have assured them help. They said that the boy’s body will be brought to his native village within two days.
