MINNEAPOLIS: This year's Diwali, with its theme 'Rhythms of Nature', was celebrated in Minneapolis convention center on October 25.
Organized by the Hindu Society of Minnesota, the event was attended by over 2200 people from several states.
The dining room and bazaar with Indian products sold by NRIs, preceding the cultural program, were buzzing with socialization and exchange of Diwali greetings.

Mukherji of Pangea World Theater narrated the concepts of the Conch Walk, the Walk of Life, the Walk of Nature and the Circle of Walk symbolizing "unity." Each 'Walk' was followed by beautifully choreographed dances and music by seventeen teams, representing India's regional diversity.
Minneapolis has one of the largest Hindu temples which serves as a regional and cultural center, and a place of worship. The temple president Purna Gurram said, "The community diversity is our pride and it showcases India's heritage and culture, and unifies us through the rhythms of music and dances."
The extraordinarily colorful costumes were in harmony with the fall colors of Minnesota. It could easily have been considered India's fashion show with the latest styles of costumes and jewelry. The program was a window to Bollywood in Minneapolis - the fusion of the old and new, choreographed and performed by the best of the community.

Families brought their children to give them a taste of music and dances - to reinforce the teachings of Indian heritage and traditions. A mother present here, related learning to dance with life skills - team work, focus, and discipline. Children, aged between 6 and 12, said they had fun but that they also worked hard for over six weeks. A healthy spirit of competitiveness was also in the air among teams.
Diwali diversity included Americans friends and families of inter-religious couples. One mother, married to an NRI, emphasized the importance of connecting children to both cultures. Wells Fargo Bank's Senior VP, a sponsor, spoke passionately about their commitment to diversity. She loved the program - a reflection of unity of happiness and peace in the community.
It was the biggest and best of Indian diaspora in Minneapolis celebrating the rhythms of nature nurturing all walks of life cycle and the unity in diversity.
Diwali celebration epitomized the microcosm of India's culinary, customs, costumes and culture.
