NRIs come out in big numbers to learn Indian music in Edison
EDISON, USA: Bollywood singer Suresh Wadkar held a two-hour workshop at TV Asia here on May 14 where he taught the intricacies of music to a room full of students from the tri-state areas.
Wadkar has taken an initiative to spread his knowledge of music in the United States. He heads a music institution called Ajivasan Music Academy and Edison is home to the USA branch of the academy. Quite often, Wadkar and his wife, Padma Wadkar, visit the academy to teach in-person.
For music lovers like Sangita Shah, who has been living in the United States for the past 20 years, this is a dream come true. She was one of the many NRI’s that attended a workshop on May 14th and the excitement on her face was clear. Being in a room, surrounded by others who love learning music as much as her. "For me, music is life. It's something I've always been passionate about. To be able to go from singing in the comforts of my own home to singing in a room full of people in front of Suresh ji, well, it doesn't get better than that," she said.
Rajul, another NRI who attended the session, it was a chance to connect with the Indian community here as well. "It was fun and a learning experience. It's not just about the educational aspect, but also the social aspect of such events,"he said.
