India’s national anthem was heard everywhere as Indian Independence Day was celebrated at many places simultaneously by many Indian Australian associations at function centres, parks and restaurants.

SYDNEY: India’s national anthem was heard everywhere as Indian Independence Day was celebrated at many places simultaneously by many Indian Australian associations at function centres, parks and restaurants.

Politicians and mainstream communes celebrated the event, mingling with people of Indian origin and wearing traditional Indian clothes.
David Clark, member of legislative council, New South Wales and wife seemed to have developed facination for everything Indian and swung to the tunes of patriotic songs on stage at Boman Hall along with the Indian community.
Matt Kean, parliament secretary and member of parliament from Hornsby too chipped in, as he never misses an opportunity of attending and partipating any function involving the Indian community.
Council of Indian Australians led by Proful Desai celebrated India Day at Bowman Function Centre Blacktown, with the hall filled to the brim with 500 people, mostly of Indian origin.
Haris Park, sometimes referred to as Hari Singh Park where Wigram Street is lined with Indian restaurants and businesses reverberated with the Indian national anthem as the tricolor was unfurled. The prominent Honest Indian Restaurant offered free pau bhaji and spiced jeera jal for one and all.
The Indian consulate in Sydney celebrated the event at Concord Function Centre, Concord, witnessing attendance of a huge crowd that broke all records. Mr Sanjay Sudhir, consul-general, led the event.
