BANGALORE: A brilliant knock from southpaw
Yuvraj Singh - who hit as many as nine sixes - brought Royal Challengers Bangalore roaring back into the IPL as the hosts beat bottom-placed Delhi Daredevils by 16 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday.
RCB finished with a very healthy 186/4 from their quota of 20 overs to go into the break with a sense of satisfaction.
Delhi, in reply, could manage only 170/7.
Daredevils could not make a match of it despite cameos from skipper
Kevin Pietersen, JP Duminy and Kedar Jadhav.
Earlier, till Yuvraj (68 not out; 29b, 1x4, 9x6) stepped on the gas, Delhi looked in complete control. But Yuvraj, who had run into form in the previous match against Rajasthan Royals, showed how devastating he could be when the mood seized him.
Superbly timed pulls, lofted on-drives and off drives sent the ball repeatedly into the laps of a rapturous crowd.
RCB, who were on the brink of a collapse at 115/4 after 16 overs, found new life in Yuvraj's batting brilliance. The last four overs yielded 71 runs as he hammered the Delhi bowlers with gay abandon.
Yuvraj's unbroken 79-run fifth-wicket stand with
Sachin Rana (15 n.o.) came off only 36 deliveries and completely changed the complexion of the game.
The start of the match was delayed by 70 minutes due to light drizzles, but no overs were curtailed.
