Muthulakshmi wants atmashanti not politics
COIMBATORE: Veerappan's widow - Muthulakshmi - won't enter politics. She has vehemently denied reports that she planned entering politics. "True, I wanted to stand in the last Assembly elections. But, dropped the plan on his (Veerappan's) advice. I won't enter the nasty world of politics. Instead, I'm now trying to unravel the peace within by pursuing the path of yoga", she said. When did she become a yoga student? About a year back, I participated in the Raksha Bandhan function organized by Brahmakumari Samajam. There I listened to a lecture on yoga and meditation. It impressed me. Since then, I'm doing yoga and meditation. Unlike Veerappan who pursued a violent path, Muthulakshmi today is more into spirituality. Atma-shanti is very important. To achieve this, one has to transcend 'kamam' (desire), 'krodham' (anger), 'lopam' (greed), 'moham' (delusion), 'madham' (ego) and 'malsaryam' (competition). By doing yoga/meditation, I'm getting rid of these evils. Do they help her in any way? They do. In the past, I went through a hell. I'd to put up with the separation from my beloved, the worries of educating my children and also trouble of being constantly watched by police. The day I chose yoga, life changed for the better. Troubles are still there. But, what can they do when you become indifferent? Muthulakshmi is so much impressed that she's even initiated her two daughters onto this path. "Whenever they find time, they accompany me to yoga and meditation classes" she said. But, was Veerappan interested in these? "Yes, I sent him once the pamphlets asking him to follow Brahmakumari's path. He's immensely interested. But, refused to practice them", she confirmed. "He (Veerappan) considered it a sin to indulge in their practice so long he didn't leave the path of violence", she said. Veerappan said, "I know it's good. You're free to practice them. But, I'm not. In order to escape the watchful eyes of STF, I'm forced to commit sin after sin. When a sinner indulges in the practice of something sacred, it becomes another sin. One day, I too will pursue your path - the path of peace. Wait for that day." "Unfortunately, the day of peace never dawned on him", she lamented.
