The film opens with Gopi (Prasanna Shetty) and Gowri (Rajani Bharadwaj) desperately trying to escape their hometown, pursued by a gang of goons. In the chaos, Gopi is injured, and the two manage to hop onto a passing truck. Fate intervenes when Gowri steps down midway to fetch water for the wounded Gopi. She, too, was struck on the head and fainted, only to awaken in eerie surroundings that set the stage for a haunted house sequence.
Gowri eventually finds shelter at the home of Sathya (Sreejith Surya), who lives with his mother (Aruna Balraj). As she recovers, she shares her past with him and, in turn, learns Sathya’s story. Her troubles trace back to Radha (Tarak Ponnappa), who hunts Gowri and Gopi due to a personal conflict involving his sister Saru (Almas Motiwala). Meanwhile, Sathya, a farmer and passionate nature conservationist, finds himself at odds with a wealthy businessman, Nithin (Sharath Lohithaswa), and his associate Gowtham (Aravind Rao), who plan to set up a chemical factory in the village. Sathya chooses to stand firm against them, leading to an intense clash.
Soul Mates is an ambitious blend of genres. It begins as an action drama with thrilling chases and a touch of romance, gradually shifting into a horror mystery filled with suspenseful twists and eerie moments. The film also explores family drama and personal vendettas, while delivering a social message about protecting nature, giving the story a thematic core.
However, while the plot holds potential, the execution feels uneven. The filmmaking itself comes across as dated, and certain songs and prolonged scenes slow the pace. The attempt to juggle romance, action, horror, and social drama occasionally dilutes the overall impact, making the story feel stretched in places.
Performances are sincere, with both newcomers and seasoned actors delivering credible portrayals. Yet, despite some strong acting moments, the film struggles to fully hold the story together.
For viewers interested in a story that combines action, mystery, romance, and social themes, Soul Mates offers enough engaging moments to make it worth a watch.
