Story:A popular RJ in Kolkata who chooses to remain anonymous, fortuitously connects with a female fan and their paths cross. Both remain in touch over social media platforms and help each other find what they are looking for which may or may not be, love.Review: Archana from Kolkata is a free-spirited girl who refuses to wear shoes, sports her leukoderma spots like a badge of honour and goes for blind dates on Tinder only with those people who, just like herself, do not display their profile pictures. She’s odd that way. She is also a huge fan of RJ Alfaaz, a poet whose mellifluous voice and soothing poems, serenade the residents of Kolkata. A quite, iceberg of a guy, Alfaaz aka Abhimanyu, loves to be lonely and is caught up in his own past. One missed call by Archana leads to the two bonding over quirky messages but they choose not to see each other’s pictures. She calls him ‘Mr Ittefaq’, unaware that he is the same RJ whose words she loves and lives by. As time passes, they fall for each other. Will the twain ever meet or will this relationship forever remain floating in a social media cloud somewhere is what forms the crux of the film. There have been many films that have tried to show how relationships, romantic ones, play out in the times of social media, but couldn’t quite show the reality of it. Fortunately, ‘Kuch Bheege Alfaaz’ successfully manages to show how love in the time of social media can stay relevant. The Kolkata of trams and bridges, fish markets and open parks is shown in a stunning manner by Onir. Also amazing is the manner and the scene where the filmmaker has used the song Pehla Nasha; definitely one of the strongest moments in the film. The Achilles heel of the film is the time it takes to reach its conclusion. You may find your attention wavering as the filmmaker slowly tells this love story and it’s almost worth it. Actor Zain Khan Durrani makes a strong debut as the brooding RJ/ poet with a painful past and delivers a brilliant, understated performance. Geetanjali Thapa, as the quirky girl with leukoderma, shines bright like the sunshine, just like her character in the film.‘Kuch Bheege Alfaaz’, while takes time to say what it has to, is one story you will definitely want to hear.
