Tiyasha Movie Review {2/5}: Critic Review of Tiyasha by Times of India

It’s a story of an estranged couple and how love finds its way back to their lives When Saswata Chatterjee pulled off a Bob Biswas and created waves, tinseltown suddenly woke up to this powerhouse actor. His kitty has been overflowing since then. But if you’re planning to watch Tiyasha to experience another stellar performance, think again. Tiyasha, as it becomes evident within the first half an hour, would’ve made a fine telefilm, er, 10 years back! And Saswata, however hard he tries, can’t save this 135 minutes of yawnathon. The plot is so clichéd that even an amateur writer will reject it. Sudipto (Saswata) is a genius musician, who leaves his father’s empire to do something on his own. But instead of cultivating his talent, he decides to become a marketing executive (God knows why!). It’s obvious that he becomes frustrated after a while and resigns to start his own business without informing his wife. As a result, he fails in maintaining his financial responsibilities. Riya (Chandrayee), his hard-working and loving wife, tolerates his irresponsible behaviour for a while, but ultimately leaves him, taking their eight-year-old son, Tojo (Soham), with her. After then the film meanders on, showing how the couple deals with their problems. Performance-wise the movie is satisfactory. Chandrayee is mature as the suffering wife. Soham is very spontaneous and expressive. As far as Saswata’s performance goes, it oscillates between brilliant and tepid. As the story drags, his boredom too becomes evident. Music and cinematography are also below average. All in all, watch it if the AC at home is not working this weekend.
