Xiaomi Mi Band 2 with LCD screen to launch on May 10

NEW DELHI: Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun at a conference in China showed off the second edition of its popular Mi Band in a photograph. It is among the most affordable yet efficient fitness trackers in the market and the Mi Band 2 will feature an LCD screen along with a round physical button.

The new Mi Band 2 is expected to show time, date, step count, heart rate and calorie count on the display. The device might also show notifications for calls and messages. Following the first gen model, this one too should allow users to unlock smartphones remotely. Also, it would be interesting to see if Xiaomi adds support for call and music control on the Mi Band 2.



At the May 10 launch event in Beijing, the company will also introduce its Mi Max smartphone featuring a 6.4-inch screen along with the MIUI 8 interface based on Android Marshmallow operating system.

Xiaomi gave a glimpse of its MIUI 8 in a short YouTube video showcasing the new integrated notification bar. The new interface seems to be continuing with same icon designs available on the MIUI 7. Also, the shortcuts panel appears to be inspired by Samsung's TouchWiz UI.


The specs of the Mi Max smartphone are expected to be similar to the Mi 5 which runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system and is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor.
