Snapdragon Wear 1100 for wearables launched: 5 things to know
NEW DELHI: At Computex 2016 in Taipei, Taiwan, Chipmaker Qualcomm announced its new Snapdragon Wear 1100 chipset for wearable devices like smartwatches, fitness trackers and smart headsets. The new chipset comes with features aimed at improving performance of kids’ smartwatches and smart bands.
Here are five things to know about the latest Snapdragon Wear 1100.
1) Designed for small-sized wearables
Snapdragon Wear 1100 is designed for devices that do not require performance delivered by the more powerful Wear 2100, announced in February. Snapdragon Wear 1100 processor is meant for wearables which are smaller in size.
2) Targeted at kids’ smartwatch makers
The next big wave of wearables will be targeted at kids. Xiaomi too recently launched its Mi Bunny smartwatch for kids. These devices are primarily meant for location tracking.
3) Consumes less power
Snapdragon Wear 1100 chipset comes with low power features such as Power Save Mode (PSM), and numerous other power optimizations.
4) Fully connected
The latest wearable chipset features a Cat 1 modem with global 3G/LTE band support along with an integrated applications processor for Linux-based applications. It can also scale to support voice, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
5) Integrated location engine
Snapdragon Wear 1100 incorporates the Qualcomm iZat integrated location engine to offer enhanced accuracy and power optimization through features like multi-GNSS, cell-ID positioning and the ability to support applications that utilize geo-fencing for safety monitoring.
Integrated in the chipset are a hardware cryptographic engine, HW random number generator and TrustZone, supporting a highly secure environment for consumers.
