Samsung announces software update for Gear S2, Gear S2 Classic
NEW DELHI: Samsung is rolling out a major software update for its latest Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic smartwatches running Tizen OS. The update focuses on improving “use and speed of access” on both the wearables.
Samsung is now allowing users to directly download apps and watchfaces on the Gear S2. This means users are no longer required to keep the watch connected to the smartphone to download them.
“Direct downloads increase the speed and ease of use when users find and add content to their Gear S2, making the user experience significantly more convenient,” said Samsung in a post.
With the new software update, users can also use their own photos from the My Photo app to set it as their watchface. “In addition, users can choose a default watchface from one of several colorful rings,” the post added.
The updated features can be installed by connecting the respective watches to the smartphone. Users can also post their S Health exercise results on Facebook, directly from the Gear S2. The S Health app can also track sleep data automatically when users wear the Gear S2 while sleeping.
Samsung has also made it easy for people to make calls or send messages on the Gear S2 with the Contacts feature being available as a widget.
The new software update also adds a timer to the “S Voice” voice recognition software. Users can start, pause, resume and stop the timer. In addition, according to Samsung, when a user asks to check messages when there are no unread messages, S Voice automatically asks the user if he/she wants to open the message app.
The company has also rolled out improvements for its Schedule, Weather and World Clock apps for the Gear S2.
