Apple Watch Nike+ to launch in India on October 7, price starts at Rs 32,900
NEW DELHI: At its recently concluded iPhone launch event in San Francisco, California, Apple also took the wraps off the second generation of the Apple Watch.
Dubbed Apple Watch Series 2, the wearable comes in three major variants (based on material used in construction of the case) - Aluminium, Stainless Steel and Ceramic White. There are also new straps created in collaboration with Hermes, a popular fashion brand.
Apart from the above, the Apple Watch Series 2 also has a variant developed in association with Nike. Called Apple Watch Series 2 Nike+ edition, it will be available in India from October 7 at a starting price of Rs 32,900.
Made specifically for runners, the Nike+ edition of Apple Watch Series 2 comes with an 'Advanced' mode. Having perforated straps, it is available in four colours.
Under-the-hood, Apple Watch Series 2 runs watchOS 3 and is powered by a new dual-core processor. It also comes with a new GPU for 2x better graphics performance than before. As for the display, the new-gen wearable device sports a second-gen OLED display that is claimed to be up to two times brighter than that in the original Apple Watch. There's also built-in GPS for better tracking of distances, among other features.
While the Apple Watch was splash proof, the new Apple Watch Series 2 is water resistant up to 50m.
Some new apps like Night Sky, Breathe and ViewRanger have been developed for the Apple Watch Series 2.
In addition, Niantic Labs is bringing its wildly-popular Pokemon Go gaming app to the Apple Watch. The app lets users know how much walking is needed to hatch an egg, provides notifications about Pokestops, and more. Pokemon Go for Apple Watch will arrive later this year.
Besides launching the Apple Watch Series 2, the company has upgraded its original Apple Watch with a new dual core processor. It now has the same CPU that powers the Series 2 Apple Watch. The company has also rebranded the original Apple Watch as Apple Watch Series 1.
