Demonetisation

On November 8, 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the demonetisation of Rs. 1000 and Rs. 500 notes. He said the decision had been taken to curb the black money menace.

Surgical Strikes

In an unprecedented move, Indian Army gave a befitting reply to the cross-border terrorist organizations by conducting surgical strikes in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. According to reports, Indian commandos were airdropped at the LOC, from where they entered into the Pakistani occupied side. The commandos destroyed 7 launch pads and killed 38 terrorists including 2 Pakistani soldiers.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 2, 2014. It is India’s largest ever cleanliness drive to clean the streets, roads and infrastructure across the nation.

Jan-Dhan Yojana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi kick-started the Jan-Dhan Yojana which offers easy access to baking services. An Indian citizen can open the bank account with zero balance. According to the Finance Ministry, 28.23 crore accounts have been opened as on April 5, 2017.

GST

Modi government played an important role to get GST bills passed from Parliament. One of the biggest indirect tax reforms since independence, GST had been impending for almost 11 years. Now all decks have been cleared and possibly the government is looking at July 1, 2017 for rolling out the new indirect tax regime.

Merger of Railway budget

Modi government scrapped the 92-year-old tradition of presenting the separate annual rail budget. Now the rail budget has been merged with the general budget. According to sources, changes in the passenger fares will be the Finance Minister’s call.

Free LPG connection to poor

A Rs. 8,000 crore scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide 5 crore free LPG connections to poor families.

Bullet Trains

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has finalized a deal for a bullet train with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe. The train will run between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. According to reports, the project will cost around Rs. 1 lakh crore.

Make in India

A flagship initiative, Make in India was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 25, 2014 to encourage multi-national and national companies to manufacture their products in India.

Digital India and Smart Cities

Modi government launched a flagship programme with a vision to transform the country into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. On the other hand, government has also started a Smart Cities Mission under which citizen friendly and sustainable 109 cities will be developed across the country.
