completes three years at the Centre on Friday. During the tenure of the Modi government India’s global competitiveness ranking rose to the 39th position in 2016-17 from the 60th spot in 2013-14, jumping 21 spots. The global competitiveness index prepared by the World Economic Forum (WEF) lists 138 countries.



In fact, India’s ranking has steadily been rising since PM Modi took office. The financial year ended 31 March, 2017 is the second year in a row that India jumped 16 spots in the WEF ranking. In the year 2015-16, India was ranked at the 55th place.

“Thanks to improved monetary and fiscal policies as well as lower oil prices, the Indian economy has stabilised and now boasts of the highest growth among G20 countries,” the WEF’s Global Competitiveness Report 2016-17 stated.

The WEF ranking improvement is recognition badge that the Narendra Modi government would wear proudly, given the Prime Minister’s repeated push for economic reforms in the country.

India’s “competitiveness has improved across the board, in particular in goods market efficiency, business sophistication, and innovation,” according to the report.
