NEW DELHI: Sony as expected has launched its two new Xperia smartphones at its pre-IFA 2016 keynote event in Berlin, Germany. The Japanese tech giant has launched the camera-centric flagship smartphone, the
The company has worked on a slightly different design for its Xperia XZ and has focussed on its camera as well. The highlight of the smartphone is the 23MP rear camera with laser autofocus, EXMOR sensor and RGBC infrared sensor for better light balance adjustment. The camera also features the company’s Predictive Hybrid AF technology that was used in the Xperia X, and can record videos in 4K resolution. There is also a 13MP front-facing camera with 6400 ISO for better low-light photography.

XZ sports a metal back panel along with plastic side curved bezels. Like other flagship Xperia smartphone, the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact feature a fingerprint sensor on the side. The Xperia XZ has a 5.2-inch full HD resolution display and is powered by the quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, clubbed with 3GB RAM. It also has 32GB of inbuilt storage and is water resistant as well. It supports microSD card up to 256GB.
The Sony Xperia ZR has a 2900mAh battery and supports Qnovo adaptive charging that can control the charging current to prevent battery damage over time. The device comes in a new colour variant – Forest Blue alongside Mineral Black and Platinum. USB Type-C port is also included.
As for the
Sony Xperia X Compact
, the smartphone shares most of the camera features from the previous flagship device - Xperia X. It has a smaller 4.6-inch HD display and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor, clubbed with 3GB RAM and 32GB/64GB (single SIM/dual SIM) inbuilt storage. It also supports microSD card slot up to 256GB. Backed by a 2700mAh battery, the Xperia X Compact too supports the Qnovo adaptive charging technology.
As for the camera, the handset comes with 23MP rear camera with three image sensor seen with the Xperia XZ. It also has a 5MP front-facing camera with Exmor RS camera sensor.
It will hit the US market by next week. The device also comes in a new Mist Blue colour variant. Not much is known about the handset yet. The flagship Xperia XZ on the other hand, will reach the markets by October this year in both single and dual-SIM variants.
