Samsung Galaxy J2 DTV smartphone with digital TV tuner listed online

NEW DELHI: It seems that South Korean tech giant Samsung is planning to launch its Galaxy J2 DTV smartphone. The unannounced smartphone has been listed on the company’s official website, but is presently exclusive to Philippines with no word about availability in other markets. The USP of the Galaxy J2 DTV is that it comes with a digital TV tuner, which makes it the first smartphone from Samsung to have the capability to broadcast television.

According to a report by The Next Web website, the TV broadcast feature on the Galaxy J2 DTV may not work as advertised in other countries. That’s because Philippines supports the Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting (ISDB) standard, while Europe and America support Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) and Advanced Television System Committee (ATSC) standards respectively.

In terms of specifications, the Samsung Galaxy J2 DTV has a 4.7-inch qHD display of 540x960 pixel resolution. The handset runs Android and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor. It offers 1GB of RAM and 8GB internal storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB by installing a microSD card.

Samsung Galaxy J2 DTV boasts a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2MP front camera for selfies. Connectivity options of the device include 4G, LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. Housing a 2,000mAh battery, it’s available in Gold colour option.


The company recently launched its Gear S3 smartwatch at a pre-IFA 2016 conference in Berlin, Germany. Like last time, Samsung has launched two variants of the device - Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic. Both smartwatches run the company's Tizen OS 2.3.2.

Samsung Gear S3 features a 1.3-inch circular Super Amoled display of 360x360 pixel resolution and 278 ppi pixel density. It comes with rotating bezel along with enhanced new features. The smartwatch also has a full colour 'Always On' display with Corning Gorilla Glass SR+ protection. Powering the wearable is a dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz coupled with 768MB of RAM, which is more than the Gear S2's 512MB of RAM. The internal storage of the smartwatch stays the same at 4GB.
