Chinese tech giant Huawei has launched a new smartphone in India, under its Honor sub-brand. Dubbed Honor 5C, the smartphone is priced at Rs 10,999. It will be available in three colours - Silver, Champagne Gold and Grey.
We spent a few hours with the device to see what it’s all about. Here are our first impressions of the Huawei Honor 5C.
Design and display
When it comes to looks and design, Huawei Honor 5C definitely scores well. We liked the aesthetics of the phone. Honor 5C sports an all metal body and a sturdy build. The front is dominated by the 5.2-inch Full HD screen.
In the limited time we used it, the 5C’s Full HD panel of 1080x1920 pixel resolution reproduced colours vibrantly and showed good viewing angles. That said, we found the display to be a bit reflective. For more details about the image quality, you’ll have to wait for our full review of the device.
The rear panel of Honor 5C bears the Honor branding, in addition to the fingerprint sensor and the 13MP rear shooter with LED flash.
The phone has rounded corners. The top edge includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, whereas the bottom edge is where the microUSB port and speaker grille are placed. The right edge is where the volume rocker and power button are, and the left has the hybrid dual-sim and microSD card slot.
Honor 5C sports a 13MP rear camera with autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus and face/smile detection features. We tried the phone’s rear camera for a while and it performed very well. The focus was fairly accurate and quick. Colour reproduction in the images was accurate, and photos were bright and clear.
We also tested the 8MP front-facing camera of the Honor 5C, and it worked pretty well.
However, it’s too early to make a final call on the camera quality. We’ll only be able to do that once we thoroughly review the device.
Honor 5C is powered by Huawei's home-brewed HiSilicon Kirin 650 chipset coupled with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal memory. It can also support microSD cards of up to 256GB. During the time when we used the device, we did not face any lags or problems with it. The device also packs a 3,000mAh non-removable battery.
The smartphone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. We found the interface to be clean and user-friendly. Like most other phones, Honor 5C’s homescreen is integrated with the app drawer.
We would say that we liked the performance of the Honor 5C, in the limited time we used it. Obviously, we’ll reserve our final thoughts for the detailed review.
On the face of it, Huawei Honor 5C definitely seems promising. But we’ll have to run it through our detailed reviewing process to see whether it’s truly worth the asking price of Rs 10,499. Stay tuned for our in-depth review of the Huawei Honor 5C.
