Apple unveils smaller iPad Pro with 9.7-inch screen

NEW DELHI: Going small is the theme of Apple’s launch event tonight as the company unveiled a smaller iPad Pro tablet with a 9.7-inch display, alongside the 4-inch iPhone SE.

The new iPad Pro has display resolution of 2048x1536p and pixel density of 264ppi and is 25% brighter than the screen of iPad Air 2. The latest iPad features a new True Tone technology that tracks brightness and ambient light temperature to make the screen more eye-friendly under varying lighting condition.

Under the hood, the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro packs the A9X processor, which also powers the company’s flagship 12.9-inch iPad Pro model. For imaging, the Apple tablet comes with a 12MP iSight camera that can record 4K videos; the 5MP front camera supports the Retina flash technology for brighter selfies.

For the first time, Apple is releasing the 256GB storage option for the iPad line, pricing the new iPad Pro at $899 for the Wi-Fi model. The other storage variants of the tablet are 32GB for $599 and 128GB for $749. The company did not announce the prices of the 4G variants at the event.

Other key features of iPad Pro are Touch ID fingerprint sensor, 10-hour battery life and four speakers. The device will be available in rose gold, silver, gray and gold colours.

Along with the iPad Pro, Apple unveiled the smart keyboard cover at the event as well as the USB Camera Adapter and SD Card Reader for the tablet.
